Alexander Serio - About
Philadelphia based trumpeter, educator, and arts visionary Alexander Serio remains in demand in the Philadelphia area and beyond. Past season highlights include solo performances at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, and the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. He also appeared with Stacked Like Pancakes at the 25th Anniversary Vans Warped Tour in Atlantic City.
Alex has performed with the Arcana New Music Ensemble, Lancaster Symphony, Kennett Symphony, Garden State Jazz Orchestra, Lancaster Symphony Brass, Hickory Brass, and Towson University Faculty Brass. He was the principal trumpet of the Loudoun Symphony in Virginia from 2009 to 2012. Alex was also twice a semi-finalist in the National Trumpet Competition and a winner of Shenandoah University’s 2006 Solo Competition. He debuted as a soloist at age 18 in Europe with the Governor’s School for the Arts Orchestra.
As an educator, Alex’s students have advanced and/or won prizes in the National Trumpet Competition, Tri-County Competition, Trumpetcompetition.com, and Young Classical Virtuosos of Tomorrow. They have performed at Carnegie Hall as young as age ten, and they have gone on to be accepted into The National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, Peabody Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, Indiana University, McGill University, and Juilliard’s Pre-College Division.
As an administrator, Alex is currently the Director of the Wynnefield Branch of Settlement Music School, Founder and Director of Ictus International Music Competition, and Concert Manager at Harmony for Peace. Previously, he was the Administrative Director at the Nelly Berman School of Music. He has given guest lectures in music entrepreneurship at Towson University, West Chester University, and Shenandoah University.
Alex holds an M.M. from Towson University, where he studied with Rene Shapiro, and a B.M. from Shenandoah Conservatory, where his primary teacher was Dr. Scott Nelson. Alex has participated in masterclasses and lessons with some of the world's leading trumpeters, including Hakan Hardenberger, Thomas Stevens, Markus Stockhausen, Jens Lindemann, Edward Carroll, Gabriele Cassone, David Bilger, and Stephen Burns.
Alex is currently on the Trumpet Faculty at the Settlement Music School and was formerly on the Faculty at the Nelly Berman School of Music. He maintains a selective private studio in the Philadelphia area.
